Leisha and Jordan’s vintage winter wedding in Saskatoon paid homage to their local community of Riversdale. From the backdrops of their wedding photos to their vendors, their entire wedding day cast a spotlight on the neighbourhood they call home – to get to their venue, they just walked across the street!
Leisha designed their invitations in Microsoft word, using typewriter font as a tribute to her late grandmother, who typed everything out on her typewriter. In keeping with the vintage theme, they included photos of themselves as kids.
Their vintage decor consisted mainly of second hand finds from the bride’s favourite thrift shop. Leisha and Jordan enlisted the help of her mother and best friend to hand pick dozens of vintage vases, two hundred vintage plates for supper, and a hundred candle holders to light the room as they said their vows.
From the bride, Leisha:
We wanted our wedding to be simple. No bridesmaids, no walking down the aisle, no throwing the bouquet. Instead we wanted to throw an amazing party with a few special details. We live in Riversdale so we tried to show off our community as much as possible. Our photos were taken in the neighbourhood, our venue is right across the street from our house. I bought so many plates and vases from my favourite thrift store on 20th street.
We also wanted the food to be from Saskatchewan! It was January so a menu heavy on root vegetables and pickled chanterelle mushrooms was right up our alley.
The most important thing was to be surrounded by our closest friends and family. We had everyone hold a candle during our ceremony so the room glowed with light and love.
