From the bride, Jackie:
We started out the morning by getting ready separately. Us girls drank mimosas and took our time getting ready. I let the girls choose their own dresses, with gold sparky shoes and jewelry. I wanted them all to be comfortable and feel good in the dress they had to wear! I also love the look of different dresses in the same color range. Dane and I wrote each other letters to read that morning, and that was one of my favorite parts of the day. It was so personal and meant to much to me. We also bought each other gifts and Dane surprised me with a second wedding band!
Our ceremony was at Rotary Park. Dane’s aunt officiated the ceremony, which was very intimate, with only our close friends and family. This made everything more personable, as we were able to talk to and hug everyone that was there. My all-time favorite moment was the moment I saw Dane at the altar. He looked so calm but he smiled and told me I looked beautiful. I said “WHAT?” because I was so nervous! We wrote our own vows and this was also one of my favorite parts of the day! Neither of us cried which was shocking because I had cried reading them every time I practiced them, but we just looked at each other and pretended it was just the two of us. We chose to write our own vows to be more personal and I would recommend doing the same to any bride! Dane was hesitant at first, but he knew how important it was to me and he was happy we chose to do that.
After the ceremony we had so much fun! We rented a limo, drove around the city for photos, and had some drinks. Dane and his groomsmen smoked the cigars I’d given them that morning. Getting our pictures at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building was super unique and I think those pictures are my favorite – so elegant and timeless.
Afterwards we headed to the Turvey Center for the reception. Our friend at Mint Vinyl Designs in Saskatoon did up our programs and I loved them! They had details like where everyone had traveled from, our pets’ names and how long we have known the wedding party. I made almost all of my wedding decor which made it super unique. I wanted everything glitter – my girls kept telling me there is such thing as too much glitter and I said NEVER! We rented the glitter table cloths but the rest I made and I loved it all! Dane’s best man surprised him with a video of Dane dancing as a bumblebee when he was young and it was hilarious! Our toasts were all unreal and made us all cry! So many people came up to me after and told how they could tell we are from a small town as everything was so laid back. After the speeches we danced the night away!
My advice would be to enjoy the planning! Make the day unique to you and your groom and don’t conform to rules or traditions that are not important to you! Relax and don’t let anything stress you out too much, especially the day of the wedding. The most important thing is that you are marrying the person you love! One piece of advice I got was to take at least five minutes out of the day and go for a walk or spend alone time with your husband so you can really let the reality of what is happening sink in. The day goes by so fast, so take time to relish in the amazing moments. I know the planning to me was fun and not stressful but I was very organized and on top of deadlines, which is a huge thing to keep your stress level down. Also, pick a good photographer! The pictures of your day will last a lifetime and in my opinion it is worth it to spend a little bit more money on someone you love or you may regret it!
The most important thing to us at our wedding was that everyone had fun! It was the most perfect day that we will never forget!!
