Expert Question: When Should We Send Out Invitations?

This question appears in our inbox all the time. Finally I realized that I needed one of our wedding experts to answer it correctly for me. Molly from Lux Events stepped in to help me out with this week’s post.

When should we send out invitations? Do they have to be paper? Do we need a Save the Date?
I would use a Save the Date if you are having a destination wedding, getting married on a busy holiday weekend, or have a lot of guests from out of town. You can ask anyone, I am a huge stationery fan! I think having matching stationery throughout the wedding brings your whole wedding design together. The first impression a guest has of your wedding is through that Save the Date or invitation. Carrying that through in the program, seating chart, escort or place cards, menu, thank you cards, etc. not only shows your guests you’ve put thought into every area of your wedding, but it makes your guest feel taken care of and excited about your wedding from the very beginning. I would send out your invitations between 8-10 weeks before your big day in order to have enough time to get responses back for your catering team, stationery and rental vendors.
