From the bride, Jessica:
Troy and I were both born and raised in Estevan, and started dating eleven years ago in high school. Our wedding took place in our hometown surrounded by lots of friends and family who have supported us throughout the years. The girls got ready at “The Loft,” an old apartment building that the bridesmaids had rented for my bridal shower. I fell in love with the feel of the space and the high ceilings and wooden ceiling pillars. The guys got ready at the home Troy and I own together.
The ceremony took place about 15 minutes outside of Estevan at Metochos Bible Camp. It is a gorgeous building with floor to ceiling windows. I hardly had to decorate as the windows were the main attraction. I set up gold Chiavari chairs and pink rose petals and that was pretty much it! One choice I made that was different was to have the groomsmen and bridesmaids alternate on either side of us during the ceremony. It symbolized that the girls aren’t just standing up for me and the guys for him, but everyone standing up for both of us. We have both been friends/family with our bridesmaids and groomsmen for years and I loved this idea!
After the ceremony we headed to Woodlawn Park where we did pictures with our bridal party and had our dogs Rocco and Zeus join us. The reception took place at the Beefeater Plaza in Estevan.
Lots of the little details were special because they were done with friends and family. My mother-in-law and I made the centerpieces together. The big sign and some little signs were made for me by my maid of honor Keisha. My other maid of honor Jory and I decided to make programs at the last minute, two nights before the wedding. I love looking at some of the details and remembering the times we had putting them together.
I loved reading the letter that my husband wrote to me on the morning of the wedding! I had so many laughs with my wedding party and was glad we had such a fun group! My cheeks hurt the days following the wedding from laughing so much.
My favourite moment which was also caught by the photographers and videographer was a “first look” done with me and my mom. It was so emotional and special because my mom has been battling cancer and was diagnosed earlier this year at age 50 and she was so happy to be attending my wedding day. The first look was actually the photographer’s idea and I’m so thankful for that. It was truly a moment I will never forget.
My advice would be just to take it step by step! It’s overwhelming to think of all the things you have to do in the year prior to your wedding. Focus on what needs to be done first, and then gradually move on to making choices about the little stuff. Also, take help when you can get it. I never wanted to bother my family and friends and felt bad asking, but they truly want to help! Looking back at the wedding, having all their input and help made it that much more special.
