Lumsden: Valley Wedding

From the bride, Brittany:

I was so nervous for weeks watching the weather change from stormy to hot and anything in between for our wedding day. We were having the ceremony down in the valley so even rain that week was scaring me, because the road was too wet to get down there. The morning of the wedding I was told by my dad it had dried out enough and was good to go. We went and got ready and the ceremony was to start at 2 pm. I was standing in the house waiting for my ride to take us down the valley and I heard the thunder start. I said to my bridesmaids “we are going down there now”! The ceremony started and the thunder just rolled constantly. On one side of us it was sunny but you could see the dark clouds follow us down the aisle. We decided then to cut the ceremony a little short. The justice of the peace pronounced us husband and wife and the rain came pouring down. We all hopped in our vehicle to go back up the hill and wouldn’t you know it – we got stuck. We ended up walking back up the valley. Let me tell you this was not easy in a white dress, heels, and carrying flowers, but we made it! After the ceremony the skies cleared up beautifully for pictures. We had a tent set up for the reception, and once again, the MC announced that we were coming in and the rain came down again! I really didn’t want rain on our wedding day, but it’s a day I know most people there will never forget!

We were only engaged for 3 months, so the planning stage went quickly. I didn’t have much choice but to be pretty laid back as far as planning goes, but that definitely reflects our style. The day after we got engaged I called my mom after work and she had already nailed down a caterer, photographers, florist, and a tent. Try to be laid back and have people close to you help do as much of the ground work as possible!
