From the bride, Taryn:
The girls got ready in a hotel suite in Swift Current, and the men prepared at the best man’s farm near Kyle. It was a drizzly, windy morning, which made us nervous, but we weren’t letting it stop us!
We met out at Sask Landing for the ceremony at 2:00 pm. Right as the girls pulled up in the shuttle, the sun appeared and it got BEAUTIFUL out! Sask Landing is special to Derek as he spent a lot of summers there with his late grandfather. On the way down the aisle, each of my bridesmaids handed Derek a Polaroid photo of me that we’d taken while we were getting ready. He loved it! We were married under three large trees, surrounded by 120 of our family and friends. The ceremony was so full of love and special little moments. Almost all of our guests were crying when Derek said his vows. We wrote our own vows, which I would do again in a heart beat!
We began shooting our family photos after the ceremony and it started to spit rain again! We quickly went to a few spots at the landing for some really amazing photos with a dark, gloomy sky. On the way in to Swift Current, where the reception and dance was to take place, it started to POUR! Derek and I were able to capture a few photos under a sentimental tree outside of Swift Current, while hiding under an umbrella with lightning striking in the background! Once we reached town, we realized there was a flash flood. The roads were completely under water, so we headed straight to our reception hall. We took a few more photos in the hall, on the ice surface where the Swift Current Broncos play, and then headed back to the hotel with the wedding party to relax before our reception. I loved the downtime we had with our wedding party before our supper. It was so nice to just chat as a group and laugh a ton!
We had a small supper with only our family in attendance, and then the hall flooded with the rest of our guests for our speeches and dance! Our MCs were the two people that brought us together. They’d recorded our voices while we answered questions like how we met, when we fell in love and what we saw in our future, and played it back over a slideshow of pictures throughout our relationship!
Wedding planning advice: Have fun with it! Give yourself enough time so that you can truly enjoy it. Don’t stress over the little things, because it goes by so fast that you honestly won’t even notice if they aren’t done on your day! Soak EVERYTHING in – getting your dress, searching for decorations, picking your cake… everything! It’s all part of the experience that you will share with the most important people in your lives!
