Saskatoon: Indo-Canadian Fusion Wedding

From the bride, Kamini:

We truly had a fairy tale wedding. Every detail was planned and personalized to what we wanted. The most special thing about it however was the love and support that we felt from our family and friends. The amount of help we received from our entire Indian community in Saskatoon was incredible. We also had family that flew in from India, Africa and the States. Our perfect day would not have been possible with out the organization and planning from my dad, the enthusiasm and creative thinking from my mom and the support and advice from my mother-in-law. All of our vendors were excellent to work with. It was truly a magical day.

The theme of our wedding was “Indo-Canadian Fusion.” Our colors were royal purple and gold to reflect my vibrant Indian culture. Our wedding invitations were sent in a large gold envelope with a gold invitation that had a purple magnet embedded in the front with “R&K” written in gold and our wedding date to serve as a small “save-the-date.” The reception was in a tent at my parents’ acreage. We had hundreds of colorful lights floating on the lake and fireworks that lit up the sky after the program. Our centerpieces were miniature wedding cakes that my mom and I made together. The cake tiers were vanilla and chocolate with buttercream icing, covered with white fondant and decorated with hand made sugar flowers. We integrated the best parts of both our cultures to make an incredible, unforgettable day.

Some of my favourite memories: Listening to my husband say his personal vows to me and seeing the tears in his eyes.  Listening to my mom and my mother-in-law singing so beautifully in the background while we signed the registry. Having my 84 year old grandmother, who flew across the world from India, pray over my husband and I as we kneeled at her feet
