We are putting a spin on the idea of the destination wedding. If you missed part one you can check out the post here. Our province has so many beautiful locations -you don’t need to head someplace tropical to have your wedding be considered a ‘destination wedding’. This week we are focusing on Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park.
If you have always wanted to have your wedding among the forest and trees, then Cypress Hills is your perfect destination. The park, which straddles the Saskatchewan/Alberta border, holds a host of perfect photo spots for a couple on their wedding day. Think of how you could tie the nature theme into your decor. Plus, most of your guests have probably never had the chance to visit this park. You would be doing them a favour by coaxing them to this stunning destination for your wedding. This beautiful Saskatchewan destination is perfect for weddings in all four seasons.
The great thing about local destination weddings is that you can make them as long or as short as you like. If you just want your guests to attend for the day, they have the option of leaving the next morning. Or, you can plan a whole weekend around your nuptials and incorporate local activities and shopping. On Friday, have a welcome evening and serve Cypress Hills wine. The day of the wedding you could offer insight into some great activities that won’t take up their whole day. This extensive list includes everything from hiking to zip lining. Then, instead of having a gift opening the day after the wedding, host a lovely brunch at the resort’s restaurant.
Ceremony: Picture it – the cool air in the forest welcoming the sunlight as it pushes its way through the trees. Under this green canopy is where you will exchange vows. Here at Cypress Hills you can literally have your ceremony on the forest floor. Just think of how romantic it will be to have your guests gathering in the woods to witness you exchange rings. Another great location for your ceremony in the park is right at the Resort at Cypress Hills. They have a cute back patio perfect for gathering an intimate group or a large number of guests. If you are looking for a church ceremony the park is close to Maple Creek, where there is a cute Catholic chapel.
Reception: The most popular reception venue is the banquet room at the Resort at Cypress Hills. They will take care of all the details for your evening. If you want to be a little on the adventurous side, rent a couple of campsites next to one another and hold your reception under the stars. Either way you will be celebrating your love in one of the great hidden locations that Saskatchewan has to offer.
Accommodations: Don’t think that we haven’t looked into where your guests will be staying! You don’t want to take them out into this unique setting just to have them back track to a local town at the end of the night. The park has so many great places to stay. Some guests might want to make an extended vacation out of the trip. There are many great camping locations, bed and breakfasts, cabins and rooms at the resort. You can discover all the accommodations at the park by visiting Cypress Hills Accommodations.
Why should you have your wedding here? The element of adventure and romance is written all over Cypress Hills. The location alone is something to be desired on a wedding day. Why not bring all of your favourite people to this unique setting for your wedding? Break all the typical plans for the reception and hold a BBQ right in your camp site. Or go with a more elegant idea for the wedding reception, keeping the location outdoors location and adding some vintage touches to the decor. There are no rules to what you can do with this perfect Saskatchewan location. Guests will love the idea of running off to a piece of our province they may have never had the opportunity to get to. Not to mention that your guests have so many great activities to do on your own or with the family.
Don’t take our word for it, hear about a couple who chose Cypress Hills for their destination weddding!
O + S heard about the Resort at Cypress Hills at a bridal show in Calgary. They loved the landscape of the location and how it was a little adventure away from where they lived, a place different and new to them that would become someplace special. They invited their close friends and family and asked them to meet them among the pine trees. The day was nothing short of amazing.
We are not done yet – we have many locations within Saskatchewan that you should consider when planning your Saskatchewan destination wedding. If you have one that you think we should look into let us know!
