Zenon Park: Elegant November Wedding

From the bride, Danee:

The day started off with the ladies getting ready at my parents’ house, which is right across the street from the church we were married in. It was such a relaxing morning. We had our hair and makeup done, ate, and watched the guests arrive. After gathering in the morning at Claye’s farm, the boys drove the bus we had rented to the church. Our ceremony was filled with live music from our family members and pure joy. The church we held our ceremony in was the same church in which my parents were married, which made it so special and sentimental. After the ceremony we took family photos outside the church and then loaded up in the bus to head to Claye’s family farm and surrounding area for pictures. We had an amazing afternoon filled with photos, laughter and celebration. We had the most fun with our wedding party! The weather was so beautiful for the middle of November and the sun was shining. We were able to take pictures out in the field surrounded by people combining, which is rare for November!

Our reception was lit up by candles and string lights. Hand-crafted décor and vintage details filled the space. My mom has an amazing gift and love for decorating and she spent countless hours with me creating the day we had always dreamed of. We spent many days in the year leading up to our wedding searching vintage and thrift stores and creating personal touches so that our wedding would feel unique to us. We had a large reception with all our family and friends, held in the community hall. We loved hearing speeches from our friends and family and watching the slideshow, which was made by my aunt and cousin, throughout the night. My uncle and Claye’s brother sang our first dance. They did such a beautiful job and it meant the world to us to have them sing for such a special moment. The dance floor was packed and we had such a fun filled night celebrating with everyone.

Our day felt intimate and personal even with over 200 guests. Our colours were gold, ivory and black. I wanted our wedding to feel elegant, classic and to have vintage touches.Doing all our own décor with my mom and spending countless hours planning together really made it feel special. My great grandma’s chandelier hung behind our cake table, we had old family wedding photos on a refurbished dresser, and used many other items throughout the space that belonged to our grandparents and great grandparents. Claye built a photo wall that everyone took photos in, and we had a popcorn bar with all sorts of toppings and flavours. All of these things made our wedding unique to us. We also will never forget how lucky we were to have such nice weather for our wedding day. Planning a November wedding you never know what weather you are going to have, and we were so happy with our 14 degree sunny day. It felt like summer!

One of my favorite memories was watching the tears fill up in my husband’s eyes as I walked down the aisle. Another favourite moment of mine was reading the poem Claye had wrote for me to read the morning of our wedding. Throughout our dating years, Claye used to make me personalized cards for every birthday and write a funny poem inside. It was a beautiful poem written on funny stationary from our fridge. I loved how our wedding took place in our small hometowns and we got to share it with all the people we have made memories with there.

I think it is really important to make your wedding day your own and make it what you and your future husband want. As for your wedding day, a friend of mine told me to just take moments to breathe, look around and take it all in. Don’t get caught up in all the stress because the day goes by so fast. I took her advice and it really helped us enjoy the day and remember all the little moments that make it so special.
