Saskatoon: Bessborough Gardens Wedding

From the bride, Rocela:

Our wedding was a dream come true for us! When my family first moved to Saskatoon, one of the first things did was walk along the river, and on that day I saw a wedding taking place at this beautiful garden behind this beautiful castle. I thought to myself “When I get married, this is where I would like it to be as well – a beautiful garden wedding.” So I was so excited that we were able to plan the wedding the way that I imagined it when I was just a teenager. And what a beautiful day it turned out to be!

The ceremony was held at the garden of the Delta Bessborough Hotel. We had the view of the castle hotel and the view of the river as well. The Saskatoon Ensemble provided us a string quartet and they played some of our favorite songs while the guests arrived and got seated. The ceremonial march was memorable for us. For me, the bride, it was when I got to see everything for the first time. I watched my soon-to-be-husband, standing in the front waiting for me. I also saw, for the first time, everything we planned for months – decorations, music, and guests – turned into life. For Geoffrey, it was watching me come down the aisle – the moment when he locked eyes with his brother, his best man, and the moment he saw me come out the doors. I walked down the aisle, we had our tears, we said our vows and we said “I do”! My favorite moment is actually the whole ceremony itself, hand in hand as we declared our love for each other, and read our vows while being surrounded by families and friends. When I close my eyes and recall our wedding day, this is the moment that comes to me.

Soon after the ceremony, we drove to this wonderful retreat house by the river to take some wedding photos. It was beautiful! Trust your experienced photographer to know which places to take you when it comes to having amazing pictures! Then it was time for celebration! We drove back to the hotel and had the reception inside one of the ballrooms. It was, again, amazing – decorations, food, and atmosphere – it was all better than what we had imagined! We celebrated with friends and family and it was a very wonderful experience. The rest of the night was – yup, you guessed right – amazing!

There wasn’t anything “unique” per se in our wedding. We did make choices that we both thought were special to us, like the venue. We decided to host the wedding here at home in Saskatoon. This allowed us to invite more of our families and friends. It was important to us to have the people we care about be present on the day of our wedding. We wanted the theme of the wedding to be elegant and classic to match the venue of ceremony and reception. And to match the theme, we choose combinations of gold, rose gold, and light peach. Why limit yourself to only one theme color!

Plan the whole day. Hire trusted professionals. This is the only reason our wedding day went on so smoothly. The people we trusted did their jobs beautifully and on time. It allowed us and everyone to just focus on celebrating the day! Get an amazing photographer. And, follow your dreams 🙂
