From photographer Jackie Larkin of Jackie Hall Photography:
For this styled wedding shoot I wanted to showcase a raw, rugged, and beautiful look. The whole session and styling was based off of our location, the Big Muddy Valley. The valley is so incredibly stunning and tucked away and I wanted to show that sometimes going a little out of the norm yields amazing results!
Every one of the collaborators on board did such an incredible job and really added so much to the shoot. For the hair and makeup I didn’t want it to look super formal, keeping more to the carefree, boho feeling that we were going for. Shana did a beautiful updo while still keeping Megan’s hair flowing. This would be such a perfect wedding style for those not wanting anything too traditional. As for makeup, it was really important that everything was kept more natural looking. Amber did such a perfect job and the colour palette used worked perfectly with our backdrop.
I think what really made the shoot was the stunning dress created by Dean Renwick of Dean Renwick Design Studio. Dean was kind enough to make the dress for our shoot specifically and when we finally got to see it I couldn’t believe how gorgeous it turned out! Megan modelled the dress and totally rocked the whole boho look. Dean also helped style our “groom” Chase and the help was definitely appreciated! Dean brought with him gorgeous accessories created by Roxanne Brown Jewellery that helped complete the wardrobe for this session. They complimented everything instead of taking away from the dress.
Wascana Flower Shoppe designed and created the bouquet and like everything else they do, they did not disappoint! The Big Muddy Valley is very rugged and has a lot of rich gold tones and the bouquet popped against the hills. Like the dress, this was another piece of art that really helped bring the shoot together!
And finally, our models Megan and Chase were chosen for the shoot as I felt they would really fit in well with the overall look and feel of everything, plus having worked with them previously, I knew they would do an amazing job! We had a long day, starting in the afternoon and not returning to Regina until well past 10:00 pm and thankfully Megan and Chase were great sports and were up for an adventure! I wanted the shoot to be photographed at sunset to really help bring out the warm tones in the valley so we had to shoot later in the day. As an added bonus (an unfortunate bonus) the thick fire smoke rolled in toward the end of the session so we had a strong haze in the photographs as well. An absolutely perfect evening for such a special session!
