In the heart of downtown Saskatoon stands an elegant venue, full of windows and grace. TCU Place has been doing weddings for the past 50 years. You could say they know their way around a wedding day. They offer many amenities on site as well as different spaces to accommodate any size of reception. Vinh Ting, Sales Executive for TCU Place, tells us a little more about this gem of a location.
Sask Ever After: What is your role in the wedding day?
TCU Place: We are unique! Our facility is unlike most convention centres, and our state-of-the-art Sid Buckwold Theatre sets us apart. Our functional space also allows for unlimited configurations to accommodate every type of event. I am a Sales Executive and am responsible for handling wedding bookings and making deals. The Events Coordinator is an experienced wedding planner there to take care of the details, and the Duty Manager will be present during the wedding to ensue everything goes smoothly.
SEA: What is your favorite part of the wedding day?
TCU Place: My favorite part is when we exceed their expectations and they cant’t stop talking about food, service and technical lighting.
SEA: What inspired you to be in the wedding industry?
TCU Place: Our goal is to deliver the highest quality in the industry. It’s inspiring when we get positive feedback and have a hand in creating an atmosphere that is special for the bride and groom. 98% of all our audio-visual work and catering are done in house. I believe we have an edge in these two aspects.
SEA: What advice would you give to a bride when choosing a vendor in your field for her wedding?
TCU Place: Do the homework. Compare prices and follow your heart. TCU Place is a one stop shop and stress free. At TCU Place we pride ourselves in being honest and transparent regarding what we can offer and at what price. We are one of the few venues in Saskatoon that allows corkage (i.e bringing in your own alcohol).
SEA: Educate future brides on why your business is necessary to their wedding day.
TCU Place: We provide an Event Coordinator and Duty Manager at no extra cost so the client is well taken care of. We do setup, cleanup, tables, linens, centre pieces, dance floor, and more all in one place, saving the client time and money. We work with any budget and any size of wedding, large or small.
SEA: Describe your favorite wedding that you had a role in. What made the event memorable for you as their vendor?
TCU Place: As a salesperson I am never on site during the celebration, but our clients normally tell us we’ve exceeded their expectations and we have testimonials to back this up. I remember one wedding had Ukrainian dancers and an aerial artist performing under our 19-foot high ceilings and in front of our glass windows.
SEA: Wedding day trends that you are hoping for this year or are seeing already?
TCU Place: Trends that we are seeing this year are soft blush colors.
SEA: Anything else you’d like to share?
TCU Place: We are a very popular choice for large Iraqi and East Indian weddings. Our Event Coordinator knows the particulars of these unique weddings. We’ve noticed these clients have special requirements in terms of ethnic food and overall setup. We have a very diverse client profile.
